So you think you’re LOUDER than an opera singer?

As the Thursday morning, July 5, sun beat down on Sharpe Field, the heat didn’t stop Maggie Beeson from winning “So You Think You’re Louder Than An Opera Singer” for the second year in a row.

Beeson was one of nine Boys’ and Girls’ Club participants crowned winners of the annual competition.

Beeson, 11, felt confident going up against her opponents because she won last year, but she mostly came out to have fun and wasn’t focused on winning.

“I just opened my mouth really loud and yelled because (Steven Osgood) said he didn’t care about pitch,” said Maggie, a member of 6G.

Four of Chautauqua Opera Company’s Young Artists coached the 32 competitors through the end of the event. The other eight winners were: Ruby Christner, Dylan Moore, Madeleine Clark, Justin Cokerdem, Jade Piner, Ryan Blanke, Gabriel O’Brien and Fallon Young. The winners will be featured at Chautauqua Opera and Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra’s Opera Highlights concert at 8:15 p.m. on July 14 in the Amphitheater.

“I love yelling and getting it out of my body because sometimes it’s just good to yell,” Maggie said.
