Iyla Vincent, left, five, and Caroline Kilpatrick, right, five, walk together towards the steps of the Colonnade on July 1, 2016, as part of the Children's School's annual Independence Day Parade. Vincent and Kilpatrick joined the other children and teachers of the Children's School to sing patriotic songs on the Colonnade and show off the patriotic apparel that they had made earlier that week. The parade was held on the Friday before the Fourth of July because the holiday officially falls on a Monday, which would give newcomers to Children's School no time to prepare for the parade. The parade was almost relocated due to rain, but the skies cleared up enough for the children to march to the Colonnade along their traditional parade route. Photo by Carolyn Brown.
