School of Music Instrumental Program Master Class featuring Aaron Berofsky
University of Michigan violin professor and former first violinist of the Chester String Quartet Aaron Berofsky leads a School of Music violin master class, set to be broadcast at 3:30 p.m. EDT Thursday, Aug. 13 on the CHQ Assembly Virtual Porch. Three Music School Festival Orchestra students —  Diego Diaz, Kelsea Wang and Gabriela Lara — will each perform a short work, after which there will be a give and take between teacher and student. The focus of the work will be how best to help the student improve as a player, a musician and an artist. 

Recitals with Rossen featuring Pablo Ferrández
At 5 p.m. EDT Thursday, Aug. 13, on the CHQ Assembly Video Platform, join Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra Music Director Rossen Milanov for “Recitals with Rossen featuring Pablo Ferrández.” Ferrández is a prizewinner at the XV International Tchaikovsky Competition, V Paulo International Cello Competition and ICMA 2016 “Young Artist of the Year.” Recent highlights of his career include the performances of Brahms’ Double Concerto alongside Anne-Sophie Mutter in Madrid and Oxford, the debut with the Bamberg Symphony under C. Eschenbach within the Orpheum Foundation Program and appearances with London Philharmonic, Israel Philharmonic, Vienna Symphony and the BBC Philharmonic.

CSO Rebroadcast: Wagner and Rachmaninoff
At 8:15 p.m. EDT Thursday, Aug. 13, on the CHQ Assembly Video Platform, join others for a rebroadcast of the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra’s July 2, 2019, performance of Wagner and Rachmaninoff.

Authors’ Hour
Chautauqua authors will read from their work 12:15 p.m. EDT every Thursday on Zoom during Weeks One through Nine. Find more information at www.chq.org/fcwc. Week Seven’s authors are Sabeeha Rehman, (memoirist), author of Threading My Prayer Rug: One Woman’s Journey from Pakistani Muslim to American Muslim, and Karen Weyant (non-fiction), author of Leading While Muslim: The Experiences of Muslim Principals After 9/11.

Weekly Conversation with Michael Hill and Candy Maxwell
Chautauqua Institution President Michael E. Hill and Board of Trustees Chair Candy Maxwell will hold the seventh of nine weekly community webinars at 1 p.m. EDT Thursday, Aug. 13, on the CHQ Assembly Virtual Porch. Log in to CHQ Assembly to register for the webinar. Thursday’s session will be “CHQ Assembly Feedback Session No. 3.” Maxwell and Hill will respond to questions submitted during this Virtual Porch event.

The author Cloey Olkowski

Birkenstock enthusiast and lover of all things yellow, Cloey Olkowski is the office manager at the Daily. This will be Cloey’s fourth season at the Daily and 20th season at Chautauqua. A native of Buffalo, New York, she is a recent graduate of SUNY Oswego, where she majored in public relations with double minors in graphic design and psychology. Three seasons ago she placed second in the Old First Night Run/Walk and hopes to take home the virtual gold this season.
