Chautauqua Theater Company Brown Bag

The Chautauqua Theater Company holds a Brown Bag discussion on the company’s first New Play Workshop of the season, it’s not a trip it’s a journey, with playwright Charly Evon Simpson and director Nicole A. Watson at 12:15 p.m. EDT Tuesday, July 14, on the CHQ Assembly Virtual Porch. Register to participate in a live Q-and-A. A funny and poetic play about tumbleweed, friendship, being Black, and needing to soothe something you don’t always have the words for, it’s not a trip it’s a journey welcomes back NPW alum Simpson to workshop her latest play before it premieres in 2021 at Round House Theatre in Maryland. The Brown Bag is followed with a live reading and Q-and-A at 8:15 p.m. EDT Wednesday, July 15, on the CHQ Assembly Video Platform. The NPW program is made possible by the Roe Green Foundation.

Literary Arts Contests

Writers of all ages are invited to submit their poetry or prose by Sunday, Aug. 2, to the writing contests sponsored by Friends of the Chautauqua Writers’ Center (formerly Chautauqua Literary Arts Friends.) Prizes are awarded in the adult, young adult, and youth categories. Authors’ Hour

Chautauqua authors will read from their work 12:15 p.m. EDT every Thursday on Zoom during Weeks One through Nine. Find more information at www.chq.org/fcwc. Direct any questions to friendsofthewriterscenter@gmail.com. Week Three’s authors are Susan Nusbaum (poetry), author of Alive in This Place, and Phil Terman (poetry), author of This Crazy Devotion.

Piano Master Class 

The first School of Music piano master class will take place at 2 p.m. EDT Tuesday, July 14, on the CHQ Assembly Online Classroom. The master class will be led by Boris Slutsky, visiting professor of piano at Yale University and faculty member at Johns Hopkins University’s Peabody Institute.

The author Cloey Olkowski

Birkenstock enthusiast and lover of all things yellow, Cloey Olkowski is the office manager at the Daily. This will be Cloey’s fourth season at the Daily and 20th season at Chautauqua. A native of Buffalo, New York, she is a recent graduate of SUNY Oswego, where she majored in public relations with double minors in graphic design and psychology. Three seasons ago she placed second in the Old First Night Run/Walk and hopes to take home the virtual gold this season.
