Last Monday, $40,000 was raised for the Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy during the Pro-Am Golf Tournament at the Chautauqua Golf Club. The money raised will support the work of land conservation, waterway restoration and public education. According to Watershed Conservancy Executive Director Whitney Gleason, Monday’s Pro-Am raised more money than the previous year.

“Our goal was ($40,000), and we met it,” Gleason said. “We’re really thankful to all the sponsors for coming out and supporting us and helping us protect the lands that protect the lake.”

The tournament began with a shotgun start, and played in a two-best-ball format, in which the two lowest scores on each team are added for each hole. Each team was composed of one Professional Golf Association member and three amateur players.

Out of the 28 teams, the tournament ended with the Chautauqua Golf Club representatives (Kirk Stauffer, director of golf at Chautauqua; Jim Roach; Steven Roach; and Ken Brown) placing first with a total net score of 131 (-13 to par net) and walking away with a prize of $680.

The tie for second place resulted in the Park Country Club representatives (Zachary Farkas, PGA assistant professional; Andrew Robbins; Scott Robbins; and Jay Beers) and the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford representatives (Matthew Moonan, Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Player of the Week honors; Brian Devine; Steve Bowman; and Paul Rizzo) tying for second. Both teams won a prize of $450.

The Club Car, Inc., representatives (Paul Sanders, PGA coach professional; Mark Lockwood; David Lockwood; and Greg Noon) won $340 alongside the Moon Brook Country Club representatives (Benjamin Windoft, PGA head professional; Bill Johnson; Cole Robbins; and Aaron Widgreg), with both teams tying for fourth place.

A three-way tie occurred for sixth place, with the Springville Country Club, Inc., representatives (Alexander Barclay, PGA assistant professional; Dave Hanny; Jack Williams; and Phil Klinginsmith) tying with representatives from Lake View Country Club (Ryan Swanson, PGA assistant professional; Dale Lyndall; Ron Kilpatrick; and Tim Peters) and a second team of representatives from the Chautauqua Golf Club (Troy Moss, PGA head golf professional; John Galvin; Jake Galvin; and Bob Barns). All sixth-place teams won $240.

The last two placing teams tied for ninth, this time between Park Country Club (Rodney Blair, PGA assistant professional; Paul Silzle; Ricky Turner; and Mark Powers) and Tri-County Country Club (Lewis Markham, PGA assistant professional; Dan Colwell; John Liscandro; and Steve Cusamano). Both teams won $135.

The individual tournament ended with Stauffer placing first (66 total gross), Timothy Fries from Glen Oak Country Course placing second (69 total gross) and Nicholas Palliadino from Crag Burn Golf Club placing third (70 total gross).

Even as the temperatures reached the high 80s Monday, Stauffer didn’t think the heat impacted overall play.

“Golfers are used to warm weather,” he said.
