A dream is a succession of images, ideas, emotions and sensations that occur involuntarily in the mind during specific stages of sleep. “Follow your dreams” means actively pursuing your deepest passions and personal goals rather than settling for a safe, conventional path. The core intent is to live a life aligned with your inner values to maximize personal joy and minimize regret.
The Sacred Song service at 8 p.m. Sunday in the Amphitheater will explore what it means to follow your dreams, to take a path that others might not take.
Sonya Subbayya Sutton, interim director of Sacred Music, develops each of the Sacred Song services. She chooses the readings and the music, including the hymns and anthems, with the Rt. Rev. Eugene Taylor Sutton.
James Denvil and Deborah Hazlett will be the readers on Sunday. Readings will come from Scripture, a poem by Phyllis Wheatley and a prayer by Joan Brown Campbell.
Carl DuPont will be a guest musician. The Chautauqua Choir, under the direction of Sutton and accompanied by Owen Reyda, organ scholar, will sing “We Are Climbing Jacob’s Ladder,” arranged by Horace Clarence Boyer, and “The Dream Keeper,” music by Rollo A. Dilworth with text by Langston Hughes.
As is tradition, the service will end with George Frideric Handel’s “Largo” from the opera Xerxes.
