Thursday’s worship in the Hall of Philosophy includes a conversation between the Rev. Dr. Zina Jacque and Chautauqua’s Senior Pastor, the Rt. Rev. Eugene Sutton. Music is offered by piano duo Arlene Hajinlian and Sonya Subbayya Sutton, playing “Prelude, Cortege, et Air de Danse” as arranged by Claude Debussy from his opera L’enfant Prodigue, which was performed Monday evening in the Amphitheater. They will also play Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Arioso” and George Gershwin’s own arrangement of “I Got Rhythm.” As always, there is congregational singing throughout the service.
Friday’s preacher will be the Rev. Sarah Griffith Lund, pastor of First Congregational Church in Indianapolis, Indiana, and author of Blessed Are the Crazy: Breaking the Silence about Mental Illness, Family, and Church. She will speak on caring for those with mental disabilities. Music includes a piano work, “Hijaz Prelude” by Michael Harrison, as well as a hymn variation on “When Morning Gilds the Skies” by Joseph Barnby, arranged by Victoria Jicha, and “Vivace” from Telemann’s Sonata in F Major, both performed by flutist Barbara Hois and pianist Joseph Musser. The Motet Choir will sing René Clausen’s “Set Me as a Seal” and lead the congregation in singing music from around the world.
