Morning worship will take place at 9:15 a.m. Thursday in the Hall of Philosophy. The Rt. Rev. Eugene Taylor Sutton, senior pastor for Chautauqua, will preside. He will join in conversation with Chaplain of the Week Cantor Olivia Brodsky to talk about her faith journey. Flutist Colleen Law will play “Pastorale” by Germaine Tailleferre and “Suite Modale” by Ernest Bloch. Brodsky will sing “Mi Shebeirach” by Debbie Friedman. Congregational singing will include “Open My Heart” by Ana Hernández and a Caribbean
“Halle, Halle.”
The 9:15 a.m. ecumenical communion service Friday in the Hall of Philosophy will feature as homilist, the Rev. Katie Campbell-Morrison, granddaughter of former Chautauqua Senior Pastor the Rev. Joan Brown Campbell. Flutist Barbara Hois and pianist Willie LaFavor will play movements from “Suite Antique” by John Rutter. The Motet Choir, under the direction of Sonya Subbayya Sutton, will sing “O Lord, Thou Has Formed My Every Part,” a chorale by Johann Sebastian Bach.
The congregation will sing a Peruvian “Gloria,” Taizé chants “Ubi caritas” and “Nada te turbe.” The closing song will be “Down by the Riverside.” But the real fun may be a surprise twist at the very end when Mary Smaglio plays a favorite hymn on the accordion … in a polka style.
